Abstract

In order to investigate wars and military operations in different periods of time, as well as to find out the causes of defeats and victories in battle scenes, special attention should be paid to the factor of geography. Operation Forough Javidan, which was launched by the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran on July 25, 1988, after the adoption of Security Council Resolution 598 by the Islamic Republic of Iran, is closely related to geographical factors. This means that the reasons for the organization's failure in this operation and on the opposite side of the victory of Mersad operation had a direct connection with geographical factors. The present research, with a descriptive-analytical approach and relying on library sources, intends to analyze the geographical analysis of Forough Javidan operation and answer the question, what role did geographical factors play in the failure of Forough Javidan operation and the victory of Mersad operation? The results of the research have shown that natural and human factors, including the topography of Kermanshah province and the defensive position of Chahar-Zebar Strait, located 34 kilometers west of Kermanshah, as well as the creation of severe human density by the war-torn people in the Hassan Abad plain and on the axis of Islamabad West - Kermanshah road, are among the most important causes. The failure of Operation Forough Javidan is considered to be the victory of Operation Mersad by the military forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
