Abstract
The war imposed by Iraq against the Islamic Republic of Iran (1988-1980) affected the socio-economic landscape as well as the sustainable development of border areas, especially Kermanshah province in the west of Iran; A region that has suffered significant damage due to its proximity to conflict and crisis. The importance of this issue is in understanding the long-term effects of war of attrition on regional development and the necessity of rebuilding war-affected areas. In this regard, the main question of the research is: What are the socio-economic consequences of the war imposed by Iraq against Iran on the process of sustainable development in Kermanshah province? It is hypothesized that the imposed war has severely hindered the development of the region and has led to long-term economic stagnation and social disturbances. Therefore, the objectives of this research include evaluating the impact of war on socio-economic infrastructure, sustainable development, employment, education and public services and identifying post-war recovery measures. Therefore, in terms of methodological foundations, this research is based on conflict theory and post-war reconstruction models, which help to explain how war disrupts development and the challenges of recovery; In other words, it uses a hybrid approach and combines the historical analysis of conflicting data and the content analysis of experts in this field. The findings of the research also indicate that the war led to extensive destruction of infrastructure, loss of human capital, and displacement of the population, which delayed the economic growth and sustainable development of the province for several
