Abstract
This research examines the role and position of popular mobilization as one of the important tools of soft and hard power in regional developments and the redefinition of the geometry of power in the Middle East.In recent years, popular mobilization in countries such as Iran, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon has emerged as a key player in confronting security threats such as terrorism, proxy wars, Takfiri groups, the New Middle East Strategy, the Smart Power Strategy, and the Deal of the Century and sanctions. The main goal of the research is to analyze the impact of popular mobilization on military deterrence, defense of national interests, coalition of the sides of the regional resistance axis, political convergence, and strengthening national and religious identity at the regional level. The research methodology was based on a mixed approach including qualitative data analysis, case studies (such as the role of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq and Hezbollah in Lebanon), and documentary analysis. The findings show that popular mobilization, by utilizing features such as popularization, structural flexibility, ideological motivation, lightness and agility, low cost, and high utility, has been able to act as an important factor in the regional balance of power. Also, these institutions have directly contributed to containing security threats and preserving the territorial integrity of the target countries. This article also shows that popular mobilization, through the ideological and operational support of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has played a significant role in strengthening the axis of resistance and reducing the influence of trans-regional powers.
